Trey Bien presents: The Night Fiona Flawless Went Mad
Interview by Paul Oswell
The Night Fiona Flawless Went Mad is a new musical by the very talented Trey Bien. It's a dark comedy that slots in perfectly as the city shifts into Halloween mode for the month of October. We caught up with Trey to delve a little further and get a taste of the show...
Up All Night: Hi Trey, you're about to debut your new musical, The Night Fiona Flawless Went Mad, how are rehearsals going?
Trey Bien: Very well! This is a top-notch cast and crew, and it shows in their talent and professionalism during rehearsals. It is extremely exciting to hear the music and dialogue come to life in their voices, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience them onstage!
We're not angling for spoilers, but can you tell us a bit more about Fiona and why she was tipped over the brink into madness?
Only Fiona knows! But it may be a secret buried so deep, even she can’t quite see it…yet….
The stellar cast will be well known to anyone that loves our local burlesque and drag scenes, can you tell us how it's been working with them?
Absolutely incredible. I’ve worked with each of them in some capacity before, so I have been unsurprised to watch them shine already in rehearsals.
You've written and produced several musicals and perform regular shows at The AllWays Lounge, and it's seemingly your theatrical home base. Why do you love this venue so much and what does it mean to our local performer community, would you say?
The AllWays Lounge is one of the most unique and inspiring venues in the city. Not only is it a venue that welcomes a wide variety of shows and acts, but it is also a safe space that many people call their home away from home. This magical place, along with its fabulous proprietress Zalia Beville, is one of a kind.
Ugh, the dreaded question about your "process"...forgive us, but we're honestly interested! When you have an idea for a musical, do the ideas, book and music all evolve together for you, or do certain elements germinate while others edge towards completion?
Yes.
You're a multi-talented performer - do you have any other regular shows or upcoming projects where people can catch you right now, or anything in the pipeline that you'd care to share?
My current plan/goal is to produce one original musical every year, and possibly to bring a second annual treat that is more of an arrangement than an original (hint: Picture it!).
Thanks, Trey, and best wishes for the show's run!
The Night Fiona Flawless Went Mad plays at The AllWays Lounge from Friday 4th October to Monday 14th October. Click here for more information and ticketing.
