Vivacious Miss Audacious: TECHINCOLOR!
Interview by Paul Oswell
Vivacious Miss Audacious is one of our city's most vibrant performers. This weekend, she brings her new show, TECHNICOLOR, to The Joy Theater. We caught up with her to find out more...
Up All Night: Hi VMA, it's been a while since we chatted, maybe a year or so. How was your 2023? Vintage year or glad to be past it?
Vivacious Miss Audacious: 2023 was an epic year in many ways. She gets her laurels despite being imperfect! But, I love a new year and with the dawn of 2024 landing on a Monday, this year feels auspicious.
Any highlights for you last year?
The biggest highlight of 2023 was my tour across Japan as a glamorous, hula hooping pineapple, which your readers got a window into.
Anyway, to 2024 - new year, new show! Tell us about the concept of Technicolor.
I'm delighted to present the newest edition of The Vivacious Burlesque Experience: TECHNICOLOR this Friday at the Joy Theater. TECHNICOLOR is an ever expanding concept that presents astounding entertainment that VBE is known for, through a psychedelic lens. Mardi Gras is the perfect season to immerse an audience in an outrageous realm and this time around, we're commingling space age vibes with powerful, otherworldly characters, packed with bombshell energy. Think extraterrestrial club kid meets mystical acid trip, with award winning stripteasers.
Who's on the bill and what are they bringing to the show?
Our star studded cast is presenting exciting works from celebrated signatures with a TECHNICOLOR twist to never before seen acts. Tarah Cards is bringing an out of this world IGRAC ensemble with Jackie Trouble and Ayaa. Lola Van Ella will be leading us on the journey and showing off her impressive vocals. The Fluorescent Femmes (Aria Delanoche, Mz. Juno and Miss Angie Z) enchant with two juicy trio acts taking us on an interstellar romp all the way to the neon nightclub. Eddie Lockwood is spreading their signature wings with a captivating expanded performance. The Great Dane is conjuring mischief and magic while shaking their notorious derriere. SAILEM is taking the audience on an outrageous trip with a super charged light show. La Reina is showcasing their powerhouse prowess with the tour de force frenzy they are known for. Miss Angie Z is getting wet and wild like you have never seen her before. Eddie Divas is flying high, with grace, hair flips and the most insane splits 30 feet in the air. Yours truly offers up neon glamour and a bit of acrobatics with mega drama.
You've been lighting up the stage a few times at The Joy now - what do you love about producing shows there?
This is our 6th production at Joy Theater. I love showcasing major talent in a space that allows us to think big and perform big. The Joy offers the bells and whistles that enable myself and my casts to make work that expands what is possible and take wild ideas and bring them to fruition in a way that smaller stages don't allow.
Any show plans or new ideas that you can share with us for the near future? Or travel plans you're looking forward to?
2024 has a lot of exciting showbiz in the works. You'll have to stay tuned for the big reveal. I peddle in the art of the tease, after all.
Finally, how do you spend your Mardi Gras? Dive fully in from Muses Thursday to the end or do you save yourself for special events?
Previously, Vivacious Burlesque Experience landed on what I call "Sunday-Gras," right before Lundi and Mardi Gras day. With a condensed season and an earlier VBE show date, I will definitely be partying in these streets. I walk with Krewe du Rouxge on Lundi Gras and look forward to maybe, just maybe, having some extra time to create a pre-planned look for Mardi Gras day!
